A massive trade proposal has the Las Vegas Raiders’ sending superstar wide receiver Davante Adams to an AFC rival.

Adams signed a five-year deal with the Raiders worth $140 million last offseason after coming over via trade with the Green Bay Packers. Adams wanted to play with his former Fresno State teammate and friend Derek Carr, but the Raiders released the latter earlier this offseason. Carr went on to join the New Orleans Saints in free agency.

With Carr long gone, many wonder if Adams will grow disgruntled enough (if he isn’t already) to the point where the Raiders look to trade him. Could a rival club in the AFC be a player for the future Hall of Famer?

Speaking on the Patriots Talk Podcast with Tom E. Curran, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston floated the idea of the New England Patriots trading for the six-time Pro Bowler:

“I just wonder if at some point if there’s a big fish out there for them, would they not be interested? Because I just think you need a big fish to become an elite passing game.

“And so, does somebody like Davante Adams — and this is complete pie-in-the-sky thinking and this is not based on any conversations I’ve had with anybody. But if the Raiders are 2-6 at the trade deadline and Davante Adams is clearly upset because they’ve traded Derek Carr and now the team has no shot of anything, you’ve got all this cap space. He’s a great player. I’m just using him as an example, but would you try to make a move like that if you are in the hunt and a team like the Raiders or whoever it is, is not?”

It’s worth noting that Raiders’ GM Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels spent years together in Foxborough with Bill Belichick before coming to Sin City. So if the Pats were to seriously pursue an Adams trade, Belichick’s relationship and working history with both Ziegler and McDaniels could prove handy.

Last season, Adams recorded 1,516 receiving yards, marking a franchise single-season record. As well, his 100 receptions were just seven shy of the Raiders’ single-season record set by tight end Darren Waller in 2020.
