A major trade proposal has the Atlanta Hawks sending their franchise star to a rebuilding Western Conference club.

Hawks’ guard Trae Young has been the subject of recent trade rumors, even though he hasn’t outright requested a trade. Atlanta also hasn’t indicated that they’re looking to move on from the 24-year-old All-Star.

But what if the Hawks get an offer for Young that they can’t refuse? At NBA Analysis Network, James Piercey proposed a massive trade that has the Hawks sending Young to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Talen Horton-Tucker, Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji and first-round picks in 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027:

“In this deal, they’re receiving a few quality young players. Sexton was on a star trajectory just a few years ago – he could return to form on the Hawks. Horton-Tucker and Agbaji have shown potential as well.

Still, the Hawks primarily do this deal for the draft capital. They’re getting four unprotected first-round picks. That makes up the draft capital they moved to land Murray plus one extra pick.”

After years of postseason shortcomings, the Jazz began a rebuild last summer by dealing All-Stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers, respectively.

In those two trades alone, Utah landed a whopping seven first-round picks (four for Gobert, three for Mitchell), plus two pick swaps from Cleveland. So the front office has plenty of draft capital to offer up if they decide to make a play for an All-Star player like Young.

Losing Young would hurt, but Atlanta would have plenty of draft picks to help build around a core of Dejounte Murray, Saddiq Bey and De’Andre Hunter. Of course, Atlanta could always package some of those picks acquired in a Young trade to land another superstar.

So this trade makes sense on paper for both clubs, if Atlanta is indeed willing to listen on offers for their franchise player.
