Alabama State's Jacob Freeman punching guard

Alabama State’s Jacob Freeman may have changed the course of his entire life after his terrible behavior displayed in front of thousands of people at a recent game.

A video circulating on Twitter over the weekend shows Alabama State University wide receiver Jacob Freeman punching a security guard in the face after the team lost to Florida A&M on the road on Saturday.

Freeman, wearing jersey number 16, could be seen approaching the stands when the security guard stepped in the way. Freeman gets upset, and starts a verbal altercation with the security guard before hitting him. His teammates could be seen holding him back right afterward and the guard holds his nose.

The Alabama State football player was arrested, according to a police report.

He was taken into custody and booked into the Leon County Jail on a battery complaint after being arrested by Florida A&M University Police.

Freeman, who transferred to Alabama State from Georgia State, was immediately suspended from the team.

“The incident that the kid had was unfortunate, and he was 100 percent to blame. We can’t have that. It is a bad representation of himself, Alabama State, and the SWAC conference,” said head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. Monday during the SWAC coaches’ media availability. “He understands that incidents like that are a mistake, but you still have to suffer the consequences. That’s how life goes. He understands that, and he’s remorseful, but at the same time, he has to go through the process of his actions.”

Freeman is no longer appears on ASU’s roster.

He has since been released from custody, though it has not been determined whether he will return to the football team.

After Saturday’s loss, ASU is now 1-2 and 0-1 in the SWAC. The team faces Alcorn at home on Saturday, September 30.
