10 NFL Teams That Have NO CHANCE At Making The Playoffs This Year
The 2023-24 NFL season is about halfway through, and some divisions are still open for anyone to win. Conversely, some teams might want to start looking ahead to the 2024 season. Here are 10 NFL teams who have no chance of making the playoffs.
10. Tennessee Titans
Sitting towards the bottom of the AFC South, the Tennessee Titan have had a rough 2023 campaign thus far. Tannehill has started the first six games of the regular season, but has led the team to only two wins, throwing two touchdowns to six interceptions. In addition, Tannehill suffered an ankle injury in week seven, and missed the week eight matchup against the Titans. Derrick Henry who has been the focal point of the Titans offense for the past five seasons has struggled to gain traction this season compared to years past. In view of the fact that the Titans are three games back from first place in their division, it may be time to look towards the future.
9. New England Patriots
Are we ready to admit that Mac Jones indeed is not Tom Brady 2.0? The Patriots are at risk of finishing last in the AFC East for the first time since 2000. In an absolutely stacked division, the Patriots have no shot of taking home the title of Division Champions. In addition, they are the only team in the AFC with only two wins. The bigger they are the harder they fall; Coach Belichick and the Patriots are certainly falling.
8. Denver Broncos
The Sean Payton lead Denver broncos are on their third coach in the past for seasons, and at risk of finishing last in their division for the fourth year in a row. The Broncos are another three-win team in the AFC after a surprising win over the Chiefs in week eight. Russell Wilson has actually been playing well for the standards of Broncos Quarterbacks over the past decade. The problem this year has been the defense, who is tied as the worst defense in the NFL in terms of points allowed.
7. Arizona Cardinals
Okay, the NFC West is definitely not an easy division to compete in, so it’s no surprise that first year head coach Jonathon Gannon hasn’t led the team to a winning record. In fact, with starting quarterback Kyler Murray out for the foreseeable future, and star running back James Connor out on injured reserve, the one-win Cardinals should look to the future and plan the rebuild now. The big question: is this rebuild around Joshua Dobbs or Kyler Murray?
6. New York Giants
Danny Dimes has turned into Danny Ducks. After a 9-7-1 2023 record where the team made a playoff appearance, Daniel Jones and the New York Giants have taken a step in the wrong direction. The Giants have also had quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito in the starting lineup in lieu of Daniel Jones’ neck injury. The quarterback position isn’t the only position group that has experienced injuries this year, as the big boys in the trenches on both sides of the ball have struggled to stay healthy this year. Still, the Giants’ roster was scruffy to begin with, and in a stacked NFC East the team is struggling to stay afloat.
5. Los Angeles Chargers
Aside from the dedicated Chargers fan who may or may not been planted by the NFL, the Los Angeles Chargers and their fans haven’t had a lot to smile about this season. Sitting at 3-4 in a historically tough AFC West, the Chargers have a very slim chance of winning their division, which is currently being dominated by the Chiefs. Los Angeles’ remaining schedule isn’t easy either, and they play five teams that are currently at, or above .500. This team has failed to set Herbert up for success, and it may be their downfall this season.
4. Indianapolis Colts
Well, Anthony Richardson is out for the season. Shocker, the quarterback who started only 13 games in college isn’t physically prepared to be a full-time NFL starter. Digression aside, the Colts are led by Gardner Minshew II at quarterback. The team did finally get back running back Jonathon Taylor after a brief holdout, but with only three wins and a tough remaining schedule it might be too little too late.
3. Cincinnati Bengals
What happened to the Bengals this year? Cincinnati is one of three teams in the AFC North that have a 4-3 record. Still, after a week eight win, the Bengals could still lose their division for the first time in two years. Joe Burrow has been dealing with a nagging calf injury all year, and the Bengals’ passing attack has not been as exciting as fans had hoped. Overall, the Bengals are worse than we previously thought, and the rest of the NFC North is better than we previously thought. This team does not have a good chance of winning the division, and in a stacked AFC a record just over .500 won’t cut it to make the playoffs.
2. Chicago Bears
If NFL fans knew that Justin Fields wasn’t going to take a huge leap like analysts were predicting, then maybe he wouldn’t have had an average draft position of 44th overall in fantasy football leagues. In addition to the offense, the Bers’ defense ranks in the bottom five of all NFL defenses in terms of points allowed. The entire Chicago Bears team has not lived up to expectations, and with the team sitting in the bottom of an NFC North that is the least talented that it has been in the past decade; the Bears are in serious trouble for the rest of the season.
1. Carolina Panthers.
The Carolina Panthers finally won their first game of the season in week eight. The Panthers are in route to having their worst season since 2001, wen the team went 1-15. The team has been struggling with injuries, led by a new head coach in Frank Reich the Panthers have struggled to implement a defense under Ejiro Evero and are tied with the Broncos as the worst defense in the league. In addition, the roster wasn’t exactly eye popping to begin with. But hey, at least they can look forward to the 2024 NFL Draft.
