RUMOR: Former Bills & Jets HC Rex Ryan On The Verge Of A Big NFL Coaching Return
Former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan has not coached in the NFL in nearly seven years after being relieved of his duties as Bills head coach at the end of the 2016 season. Soon after he was fired, Ryan joined ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown as an analyst and has been there ever since.
According to Pat McAfee, who is also an employee at ESPN, there have been rumblings around the league that Ryan could be the top candidate to replace Vance Joseph as the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator.
Although the Broncos defense performed well in their last game last Thursday night holding the high powered Chiefs offense to just 19 points, the unit has been highly disappointing this season after being one of the best defenses in the entire league last year.
Denver’s defense currently ranks dead last in the league in total yards allowed per game, total rush yards per game and are also allowing a league worse 33.3 points per contest. Of course, these numbers are skewed by the historic beatdown the Broncos suffered in week three at the hands of the Dolphins when they surrendered 70 points and league record 726 total yards.
Rex Ryan has always been known as being a defensive minded head coach who fields a tough, hard- nosed defense. With the Broncos defense struggling as bad as it is this season, Ryan could be the perfect man to bring in to help get things turned around in the Mile High City.
