BREAKING: Two NFL Head Coaches Have Already Been Fired On Black Monday
With the end of the NFL regular season comes Black Monday. Coaches, coordinators, and GMs are on high alert as they often see themselves without a job.
The Atlanta Falcons made the first move of a period in which NFL head coaches face losing their jobs. The Atlanta Falcons fired head coach Arthur Smith, the team confirmed.
Smith finished 7-10 for the third straight season, with an overall record of 21-30 as Falcons head coach and no playoff appearances. This was an obvious firing that everybody was expecting.
The Washington Commanders made the next move hours later, firing Ron Rivera.
The Commanders’ firing of Rivera is the first move of many expected by the team’s new owners as they put their stamp on the franchise they purchased last year.
Rivera finished his tenure 26-40-1 overall as the Commanders’ head coach. The Commanders won the NFC East in Rivera’s first season with a 7-9 record and have not posted a winning record during his tenure.
The franchise desperately needs a change as it has not been above .500 since 2006 and has not won 10 games since 2012.
