Sacramento Kings Forward Sasha Vezenkov Eyes New Home, Requests Trade or Release
According to recent reports by Eurohoops, Sasha Vezenkov has requested the Sacramento Kings to either release him or trade him this offseason. The 28-year-old Bulgarian basketball player signed a 3-year, $20 million contract at the beginning of last season but has not performed well, averaging only 5.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists in 42 games.
“After an up-and-down first season in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings, Sasha Vezenkov may not come back to the franchise for his second contract year. According to Eurohoops sources, the 28-year-old forward has informed the team about his intention to leave. It is yet to be decided if he will seek another opportunity somewhere else in the NBA or if he will return to Europe. Last year, he signed a three-year 20-million contract, which is guaranteed for the first two seasons.” Eurohoops’ Mihalis Stefanou wrote.
Sasha Vezenkov Played in Three Different Leagues Before NBA
Vezenkov previously played for Olympiacos in the EuroLeague until 2023, where he won the Euroleague MVP award and helped his team clinch its first championship in six years. He also won the Alphonso Ford EuroLeague Top Scorer Trophy and was named the 2022-23 EuroLeague MVP.
Vezenkov may be traded or released by the Kings, and his basketball future will depend on the outcome of any potential trade and the offers he receives as a free agent.
Vezenkov played for Aris for 4 seasons in the Greek League before joining Olympiacos. In his first year, he played 10 games, and in his second year, he played 21 games. Despite playing sparingly in his first two seasons, his outstanding skills led to him being named the Greek League’s Best Young Player for two consecutive seasons.
He achieved remarkable success in the 2014-15 season, being named the league’s MVP, Most Improved Player, and Best Young Player. He also played for the Spanish ACB League club FC Barcelona from 2015-2018. Despite the Vezenkov trade rumor, the Kings have recently confirmed an agreement with Mike Brown.
