UFC CEO Dana White Addresses Canelo Alvarez’s TKO Boxing Remarks
There’s no denying the buzz around Dana White’s latest move. The UFC boss has teamed up with Turki Alalshikh to launch a new boxing league, and fans are eagerly watching to see how this will shake up the sport. With boxing seemingly on a downturn in recent years, many looked to White to bring some fresh energy into the scene. And now that he’s in, he’s already receiving praise from big names like Canelo Alvarez. In response to Canelo’s comments, Dana White has made sure to hit back, further fueling the excitement.
Recently, Alvarez backed Dana White’s new boxing venture, saying it’s a step in the right direction for fighters. He criticized promoters who don’t take fighters seriously and expressed confidence that White’s involvement would benefit the sport. When asked about Alvarez’s support, White welcomed the praise and emphasized the challenges ahead.
He acknowledged that having top stars excited about his boxing plans is positive but stressed that there’s still a lot of work to be done in the coming weeks. In his words, “You know, to hear that some of the biggest stars are excited that we are getting into the sport is obviously a good thing, not a bad thing. But like I said, and I’ll say it again, we’ve got a lot of work to do over the next couple of weeks.”

Boxing League Partner Of Dana White Defended The Upcoming League

Not everyone is on board with the move, though. On The Ariel Helwani Show, a UFC analyst raised concerns about TKO partnering with Ring Magazine over bigger organizations like WBA or WBC, highlighting TKO’s lack of the rich history these major bodies boast, with legends like Ali and Mayweather attached. Turki Alalshikh defended the choice, stressing Ring Magazine’s 103-year legacy and the prestige of its belt, which was once held by boxing icons like Joe Louis, Rocky, and Ali.
The boxing league’s future is definitely something to keep an eye on. If it can capture the same excitement as the UFC or Dana White’s other ventures, it could really take off. The key will be having the right fighters, exciting matchups, and strong promotion to give it the same kind of success White has had with his other projects.
