One of the top highlights on the 2025 NFL schedule is the Christmas Day doubleheader that will air on Netflix, the world’s largest streaming platform.

Even though Christmas fell on a Wednesday last year, the 2024 NFL schedule featured two Christmas Day games on Netflix: the Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans.

Netflix will also broadcast two of the three 2025 NFL Christmas Day games: the Dallas Cowboys at the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions at the Minnesota Vikings. The Denver Broncos-Kansas City Chiefs evening game will air on Amazon Prime Video.

In an interview on “The Town with Matthew Belloni” podcast, CNBC reporter Alex Sherman shared a fascinating conversation he had with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos. According to Sherman, Netflix is eyeing a significant increase in NFL game broadcasts:

“I spoke to Ted Sarandos. He admitted to me, like, ‘Yeah, I talked to Roger Goodell on the side about adding even more games beyond our two Christmas games. We just need to figure out a way to eventize these games. Maybe the NFL works with Netflix and gives them a package of 15 games that they can figure out how to eventize.”

Getting the rights for additional on the NFL schedule is easier said than done, though. In 2021, the league signed an 11-year broadcast deal worth $110 billion with ABC/ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC and Amazon Prime Video.

ABC/ESPN, CBS, Fox and NBC retained their original broadcast rights and slots, while Amazon took over the ‘Thursday Night Football’ broadcasts previously owned by Fox.

Netflix’s wish to get more NFL games is an issue for another day. For now, the network can be thrilled about the fact that they got two marquee games on the 2025 NFL schedule that could very well impact the postseason race.

The Cowboys and Commanders both figure to be in the playoff race with their high-powered offenses, while the Lions (15-2) and Vikings (14-3) were among the top clubs in the NFL a year ago.
