There’s no denying that Dagestani fighters have reshaped the global MMA landscape, dominating across major promotions with their relentless discipline, wrestling, and composure. Among them, one name currently making waves in the PFL is Usman, regarded as the toughest Nurmagomedov yet. With a string of dominant victories and growing hype, fans are eager to see if and when Usman will enter the UFC. Addressing the buzz, Team Khabib’s head coach, Javier Mendez, recently shared his thoughts.

According to Mendez, the decision is not in the hands of coaches or fighters, but rather the promotions involved: PFL and UFC. Mendez explained that Usman is currently under contract with Bellator and is very well taken care of by the organization. He emphasized that Usman enjoys being there and feels valued, which plays a major role in a fighter’s loyalty.

Ultimately, whether or not Usman joins the UFC will depend on contract negotiations once his current deal ends. Mendez pointed out that “whoever is taking good care of you is who you normally fight for,” highlighting the importance of financial security and respect over brand prestige.

That’s only a question to promotions that are involved with the fighters can answer. Meaning when Usman’s contract gets over with Bellator they take great care of him. And he love being in Bellator. So it all comes down to contract negotiations. And who is going to pay for what. At the end of the day whoever is taking good care of you is who you normally fight for,” he said.

Whether Usman eventually joins the UFC will depend on future contract negotiations. It all comes down to timing, financial terms, and how well each promotion supports its fighters. For now, Bellator seems to be where Usman feels most at home.

Usman plans to wait until Islam Makhachev finishes his UFC career before making his move. At 26 years old, he’s aiming to join the UFC at 28, giving himself two more years to grow stronger and sharpen his skills. If all goes according to his plan, Usman will enter the UFC at his physical peak and stay active until around the age of 32. Until then, fans can expect him to continue dominating outside the UFC while preparing for a future run at the highest level.

Indeed, it will be fascinating to see whether Usman Nurmagomedov eventually makes the move to the UFC—and if he does, how he stacks up against the top contenders in the division. With his technical skill set, unbeaten record, and the legacy of Team Khabib behind him, expectations will be sky-high.
