A quarter into the 2025 MLB season, several teams are already being forced to rethink big plans. While some breakout stars are stealing headlines, a few big names, including Dodgers’ latest signing, Roki Sasaki, are instead underwhelming. Take a look at three players who have turned out to be a disappointment so far this season.

No player entered 2025 MLB season with more anticipation than Roki Sasaki. The 23-year-old Japanese phenom signed a massive deal with the Dodgers and was immediately penciled in as a Rookie of the Year favorite. But so far, the results haven’t matched the hype.

Sasaki holds a 1–1 record with a 4.72 ERA through eight starts. It’s not awful, but it’s far from the ace-level dominance expected. He had a few shaky early outings where he couldn’t get out of the third inning and looked visibly unsettled.

While recent starts have shown promise, including his first quality outing in late April, he hasn’t yet looked like the franchise savior many fans hoped for.

Willy Adames – San Francisco Giants

San Francisco gave Willy Adames a massive $182 million contract to be their guy. But the former Brewers slugger looks lost through the first month and a half. He’s hitting just .224 with four home runs and has seen his power vanish.

This was a player who blasted 32 homers last season and was expected to anchor the Giants’ offense. Instead, his whiff rate is up, his hard contact is down, and his glove hasn’t been enough to cover the slump.

Max Muncy – Los Angeles Dodgers

Max Muncy has been a consistent power bat for the Dodgers until now. Through late April, Muncy was batting under .93 with zero home runs and only four RBIs. His OPS? Barely above .600. He tried a bizarre method to get back to his form, but it hasn’t changed his luck so far in the 2025 MLB season.

Coming off a World Series win, the Dodgers expected their veteran slugger to provide some early thump. Instead, he has been stuck in a brutal cold streak, even catching heat from fans. Muncy’s had slow starts before, but this one’s lasted longer than usual.
