Houston Astros Trade Rumors: Yordan Alvarez’s Injury Paves Way For $8,725,000 All-Star

With close to a week remaining for the MLB trade deadline, multiple teams are expected to make a move soon. The Houston Astros are on the lookout for a slugger, and they might just pull off a strong move from their AL rival.
Yordan Alvarez has been out for a long time due to a fracture, and the Astros have a spot to fill. Despite several challenges, they came up strong and are now at the top of the AL West. The club holds the second-best record in the American League, along with the Toronto Blue Jays. Yet, they must strengthen their roster for a better playoff run.
Dana Brown told reporters that Yordan Alvarez has been shut down after he felt soreness swinging the bat yesterday.

It’s hard to imagine the Houston Astros doing a fantastic job without Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker. To make things worse, Jeremey Pena, Jake Meyers, and Isaac Paredes are all out. Astros fans are hyped with the team’s strong performance and are waiting for the team to secure the ALCS.
While Pena and Alvarez are expected to return at some point, nothing is certain. The Astros must focus on bringing in a strong backup player, and they seem to have the perfect fit.
Houston Astros Poised To Target Cedric Mullens From The Orioles

Mullens signed a one-year $8,725,000 contract with the Orioles. Mullens is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season. That said, the Orioles have all the reasons to part ways with the All-Star. MLB insider Jeff Passan mentioned that Mullins will be the perfect fit for the Houston Astros.
“Mullins — who, since a scorching April, has hit .184/.230/.342 — is more of a complementary upgrade than a game changer. Then again, like so many others, he could get to Houston and suddenly be the best version of himself,” Passan wrote via ESPN.
The Orioles making the playoffs seems to be far-fetched at this moment. They sit at the bottom of the AL East and are still a dozen games behind the .500 mark. If they get a decent deal, the O’s could part ways with Mullens. Holding onto a player who will hit the free agent market after a failed season is not ideal.
The Houston Astros can bring home a strong addition to replace their injured players. Mullens will certainly help the team in the playoffs. Houston is ranked seventh in the week 17 MLB power rankings.
