Hulk Hogan is said to have had a heavy heart leading up to his passing.

The former WWE superstar passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida, on Thursday at the age of 71, with cardiac arrest cited as his cause of death.

Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bolea, went eight years without speaking to his 36-year-old daughter, Brooke. According to a Daily Mail source who is close to the family, Hogan held out hope of reconciliation to his dying day, despite whatever it was that was going on between them.

“The last few months of Hogan’s life had a lot more ups than downs,” the insider told the Mail.

“There was a little strain with his daughter and their relationship that had taken quite the emotional toll, but he always thought he would eventually be able to rectify that.”

Brooke never revealed why her relationship with her father soured, but her mother, Linda, claimed earlier this year that she had been “verbally and mentally abused since childhood,” although she insisted that the accusations were not “pointed at either person.”

It appears they did reconnect during Hogan’s final moments, as TMZ reports that Brooke told Hogan she loved him in their last conversation before he passed.

Brooke’s husband, hockey player Steven Olesky, reportedly made several attempts to have them reconcile over the years, but to no avail.

The wrestling icon’s sudden death is said to have shocked his family and others who were close to him.

“He was still extremely close to his son,” the source noted. “It is a surprise and doesn’t feel real at all to his family and friends.”

Hulk’s in-ring career took a serious toll on him. Over the last decade, he underwent no less than 25 surgeries, with the most recent being a neck operation, which took place in June.

Another source told the Mail he had “the body of a 140-year-old man” back in April.

Hogan leaves behind a wife, two children, and two grandchildren.
