The Dallas Mavericks had a solid meetup with the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. The team secured a 107-105 win, and their star rookie Cooper Flagg was the showstopper for the night. He added 15 points to the team’s success and impressed fans with his bold, too-small gesture after scoring over the opponent guard, Mac McClung, in the fourth quarter.

The Mavericks are moving forward with their robust roster and sky-high expectations to secure a title this season. With Anthony Davis set to return from injury, the team found strong veteran leadership within its core. However, young star Flagg’s contribution also impacts their depth.

After a quiet start in the game against the Indiana Pacers, Cooper Flagg eventually found a rhythm. By halftime, he had four points and five rebounds that helped turn a halftime deficit into a lead in the third quarter.

After the game, Flagg spoke about his too-small gesture for Mac McClung. “I think it’s about having fun. That’s something I’m trying to keep with me through everything. That’s something the older guys have been talking about, Klay especially. Just playing with a lot of joy. Just trying to enjoy the game as much as I can,” he said.

Cooper finished with 15 points, 4 assists, and 10 rebounds in the 35 minutes he spent on the court. However, despite facing some issues with his left shoulder injury, the 18-year-old played against the Pacers and is likely to be present for the next games, as the team needs his effective presence on the court.

Flagg started his NBA career with sky-high expectations from his team. Though naturally a small forward, he has been playing point guard. However, NBA legend Kevin Garnett voiced his opinion on Flagg’s new role.

“I don’t like him at point guard. I do not like these small forwards playing point guard. The point guard is very, very difficult to play. The decision-making that goes into it, having to please all the scorers. You actually have to come in knowing how to facilitate that,” Garnett stated on his KG Certified podcast.

“I think he’s better hitting the wings, being a slasher, using his athleticism, his youthfulness. You need Cooper running man. You don’t need him bringing it up 94 feet.”

However, the Mavericks coach and owner have full faith in Flagg’s potential as a point guard. Flagg will now focus on his game to elevate his presence more on the court.
