Islam Makhachev Says He’s Coming To UFC 322 To Take Revenge Against Jack Della Maddalena
The UFC 322 welterweight title fight carries extra weight beyond just the belt. It became a fight between camps after Makhachev beat Australian legend Alexander Volkanovski twice at UFC 284 and UFC 294. Meanwhile, JDM stopped Dagestani fighter Ramazan Emeev at UFC 275. Now the former lightweight champ said he is coming to avenge the loss of his fellow fighters.
Speaking to Main Event TV, Makhachev responded to any talk of revenge from the Australian side. If JDM wants payback for what happened to Volk, he is ready to settle the score for Emeev. He’s not backing down from the team rivalry angle that’s building around this fight.
Makhachev said, “I also have one guy from Dagestan who Jack beat, Ramazan Emeev. If he wants to give back for Volkanovski, I’ll give back for Ramazan.”

Both fighters bring ridiculous winning streaks into the cage. Makhachev has been on a 15-fight streak while Della Maddalena hasn’t lost in 18 consecutive fights since dropping his first two bouts. Those streaks are on the line along with the championship.
The team pride adds another dimension to an already massive fight. The welterweight champion representing Australia, after watching Volkanovski lose twice to Makhachev, creates real motivation beyond just defending his belt. The same goes for Makhachev wanting to avenge his Dagestani brother’s loss to JDM.
Islam Makhachev Said He Doesn’t Care About Pound-For-Pound Rankings
While UFC commentator Jon Anik has already said that, in his eyes, Makhachev is the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, the Dagestani says he doesn’t think about it after losing the spot to Ilia Topuria.
He said, “I can push myself to become the UFC champion, but I cannot push the rankings. People make these rankings, and I don’t believe in them.”

For now, the pound-for-pound rankings don’t mean anything to him. What truly matters is becoming a double champion by beating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322.
