UFC 321 has really ignited debate in MMA about fighters committing nasty eye pokes, which not only hurt the fight but also impact a fighter’s vision and create problems. In the main event, Ciryl Gane, while challenging for the title, landed a nasty eye poke on Tom Aspinall, which stopped the fight and resulted in a no-contest. Now, Dan Hooker has shared how he would have reacted to that.

Hooker didn’t sugarcoat his reaction to what happened between Gane and Aspinall. He thought the eye poke looked brutal, saying the Frenchman was basically going for his brain stem with how deep that finger went. Hooker said, “Bro…that was bad. He’s trying to take his brain stem out.”

When asked if he would have continued, the New Zealander clearly said he would stop the fight right there. Hooker’s seen plenty of fouls in his career, but this one clearly stood out to him. The way he described it shows just how serious he thought the poke was. Going after someone’s brain stem isn’t typical fight talk; it’s acknowledging real damage potential.

The no-contest result left a bad taste since it was a title fight. Aspinall couldn’t defend his belt, Gane didn’t get his shot decided cleanly, and fans didn’t get a real conclusion. Everyone lost in that scenario. Meanwhile, Henry Cejudo has shared advice to Aspinall.

Cejudo stressed the importance of getting examined by a top specialist to understand the full extent of the damage and recovery timeline. He recommended the same eye doctor who works with O’Malley. Cejudo trusts that physician enough to send the heavyweight champion there for evaluation.

Cejudo also brought James Mistry with him – one of Aspinall’s close friends. He wanted Mistry to hear directly from the doctor about how eye injuries actually work, what the healing process looks like, and what complications can arise. Now that Dana White has also confirmed there will be a rematch, it’s expected to be booked soon.
