Dante Core was arrested just days before the program’s Sugar Bowl matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Hannah Kozlowski of Action News 5 in Memphis reported that he was taken into custody on Dec. 26, following a traffic stop in Alabama. Officials say the Ole Miss Rebels defensive back was pulled over after he was seen traveling more than 110 miles per hour. He also did not have a visible license plate.

It’s not often we see an opponent of Georgia get in trouble for speeding. Kirby Smart admitted his program has issues. They’ve gotten into bar fights, and some have even been charged with domestic violence and sexual assault. It was earlier this month when two Georgia players were arrested.

Offensive lineman Dontrell Glover and running back Bo Walker were taken into custody. Both were charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.

As for Ole Miss freshman cornerback Dante Core, officers also smelled marijuana in his vehicle during his traffic stop. It led to a search of the vehicle.

A vehicle search uncovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said. Core was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He has since bonded on a $1,000 bond, according to Covington County officials.

Ole Miss will face the University of Georgia in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day in New Orleans. It is unknown if Dante Core will be playing in that game.

The quarterfinal on New Year’s Day is a rematch after Georgia beat Ole Miss 43-35 on Oct. 18. Ole Miss won its last six games after that loss.

Core was a four-star prospect out of Choctawatchee High School. He chose the Rebels over offers from Auburn, Boston College, and Mississippi State, among others. This is not the best way to start off your college career.
