Filip Chytil Injury: Adam Foote Shares Major Update On Canucks Forward’s Potential Return
The Vancouver Canucks may finally be close to welcoming Filip Chytil back after a long spell on the sidelines. The center has been out for months with an upper-body injury, but all signs now point toward a possible return as early as Friday night.
The 26-year-old has not played since October 19, when he was injured against the Washington Capitals. Since then, he has missed 44 straight games and has remained on injured reserve. For a team that has struggled badly this season, his absence has been another challenge in an already difficult year.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, head coach Adam Foote said Chytil could feature in the lineup on Friday against the New Jersey Devils.
“Yeah, I mean, as long as today went well, he’s gonna play,” Foote said. “Unless they come to me and say something has changed, I don’t see that happening.”
Chytil took a major step forward earlier this week when he was seen at Canucks practice wearing a full-contact jersey for the first time since the injury. While he has been skating and traveling with the team, he had not been cleared for full contact until now.
Filip Chytil’s Return Could Give A Big Boost To Struggling Canucks
Chytil’s return will be a big boost for the Canucks who have had endured a horrible season so far. The forward had made a solid start to the season, tallying three goals in the team’s first six games before the injury.
Chytil, who joined Vancouver as part of the trade last season, has had injury issues throughout his career, with the forward playing just 72 regular-season games across the previous three years.
He missed the end of the 2024-25 season after suffering a concussion, and the season before that with the New York Rangers, he played only 10 games after another concussion in November.
Vancouver recently snapped an 11-game losing streak and will host the Devils on Friday. If Chytil is able to return, it would be a welcome boost as the Canucks look to build some momentum.
