The Boston Red Sox’s pitching depth is looking pretty scary good on paper. Ranger Suárez, Sonny Gray, and Johan Oviedo now anchor a rotation behind ace Garrett Crochet, giving the Sox nine reliable arms ready to tackle the 2026 season. However, beyond the established names, the team has been stockpiling high-upside arms in the minors, and Shane Drohan is starting to turn heads. This comes amid the team’s trade possibility with Isaac Paredes.

Shane Drohan has been Boston’s sleeper story all offseason. The left-hander dominated Triple-A Worcester in 2025, posting a 2.27 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 35.2% strikeout rate over 12 outings (11 starts), holding hitters to a .185 average. Protected on the 40-man roster last November alongside David Sandlin and Tyler Uberstine, Drohan enters spring training with the chance to make the Opening Day roster. Boston sure is watching closely.

Per MassLive’s Christopher Smith on Jan. 21, 2026, Shane Drohan brings more than stats. He’s versatile, willing to start or relieve, and has refined his routine after rehab and bullpen stints with the White Sox in 2024.

“I think it’s easy to get caught up in all kind of like the titles. At the end of the day, I want to pitch in the big leagues, so whether that’s starting or relieving, it doesn’t really matter to me,” Drohan said.

With a fastball, cutter, slider, changeup, and curveball, Boston sees a potential weapon in a rotation deep on starters but thin on left-handed relief. Drohan could be the very spark that cracks the MLB roster.

Red Sox Prospect Shane Drohan Brings Nasty Arsenal and MLB Buzz

Drohan is literally flexing as one of the Red Sox’s slickest pitching prospects. Last season, he added a slider that immediately became his go-to swing-and-miss weapon, pairing it with a cutter that got way more lift after his 2024 surgery. His arsenal is shaping up to be nasty.

This offseason, Shane Drohan’s been grinding on his changeup, getting it back to peak form after dialing up the slider usage last year. Fastball, curve, cutter, slider, changeup – he’s packing all the tools.

Now on the 40-man roster, Shane Drohan is gearing up for 2026 spring training, and the hype is real. Boston could roll him out as a starter or bullpen weapon, and either way, he’s ready to get going
