The Golden State Warriors acquired Kristaps Porzingis in a blockbuster trade from the Atlanta Hawks. Unfortunately, with his injury concerns blowing up, a return timeline looked pretty much in the shadows. And now, with his POTS drama coming out as a shocker, the smoke has started to get denser.

Playing for the Hawks, the 30-year-old has missed 14 games. Coming to the Warriors, the 2018 All-Star made his debut against the Boston Celtics on February 19th. Sadly, he followed it up by sitting out the next three games. Now then, giving an explanation for his injury, Porzingis claimed that he was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS).

But what came as a shocker was what Warriors head coach Steve Kerr commented on the matter. Completely shrugging off the POTS claims, Kerr said, “When I heard about the trade, I read about his POTS diagnosis and then called Onsi Saleh, who was with us, he’s now Atlanta’s GM and he’s a good friend of mine. I called him and I said, ‘is this POTS story real?’ And he said it’s actually not POTS. It was not POTS.’ So that was some misinformation that was out there.”

He further claimed that the 14 games that Porzingis missed for Atlanta were purely due to illness. Surely, such confusion has sparked a widespread rumor about whether Porzingis faked his injury. In the meantime, the blockbuster trade got a Victor Wembanyama comparison in recent times.

Will Kristaps Porzingis Match The Impact Of Victor Wembanyama?

The 30-year-old has already made himself clear about how he wants to be the perfect fit alongside Stephen Curry. And trying to analyze the trade, De’Anthony Melton drew comparisons from the time when the San Antonio Spurs acquired Wembanyama.

“He’s a matchup nightmare for a lot of teams. You see with the Spurs, you have Wemby, who’s 7-foot, and the stuff he can do and the matchup nightmares he brings to the table. So I think (Porziņģis being) out there, it’s just going to give us a lot of size and a lot of mismatches that we need. Some teams he’s gonna kill just cause they can’t physically match up with him,” said Melton in an interview with The Athletic.

Surely, with things looking a bit suspicious, fans will be eager to see what happens next.
