Ryan Garcia Fined $5,000 By WBC After Missing 14-Day Weight Check Deadline
Ryan Garcia is already catching heat before he even steps in the ring with Mario Barrios. The WBC hit him with a $5,000 fine for missing their 14-day video check-in deadline, though he did make weight at 154.2 pounds when he finally showed up. That’s under the 155-pound limit they allow at this stage, so at least he’s not overweight.
Barrios came in at 153.0 and did everything on schedule, which just makes Garcia’s lateness look worse by comparison. Mauricio Sulaiman didn’t mince words about the fine and hinted there could be more consequences if this kind of thing keeps happening. There’s another weigh-in coming Saturday where Garcia needs to be within 3% of the 147-pound welterweight limit.

After the Devin Haney fight was ruled a no-contest because of the failed drug test, he really needs a clean, professional camp and fight week. Missing deadlines and getting fined before the opening bell isn’t the way to rebuild credibility.
An opportunity against Barrios is a real one; this fight presents a realistic title defense against a credible champion. If Garcia cannot be present at an appointed time for a weigh-in, one must question how he is feeling mentally and emotionally. Although he has all of the physical talent to win this match, his lack of discipline will always be an obstacle to his success.
Oscar De La Hoya Feels Henry Will Make Ryan Garcia Great Again
De La Hoya said he likes Garcia working with Henry. He believes Henry will get him in top shape and help him focus on the right plan. As per him, ‘KingRy’ looks good once again. He sees passion, heart, and love for boxing in him. And feels that when Garcia is disciplined and committed, he becomes very dangerous in the ring.
De La Hoya said, “Henry is going to get him in great shape. They know exactly what they have to do. Ryan is looking great. Ryan is motivated once again. I see him with passion and a lot of heart and love for the sport. When you have a Ryan Garcia who’s disciplined, dedicated, and devoted to the sport, you have one dangerous man.”
There is no doubt he was once seen as the next face of boxing, but after back-to-back losses, he lost his reputation. A win against Barrios would surely raise his status again and put him back at the top tier.
