The Pittsburgh Steelers could turn their attention to a different quarterback even if Aaron Rodgers agree to return the AFC North team. After a solid 2025 season, it seemed that Rodgers wouldn’t return to play for a coach that wasn’t Mike Tomlin.

Mike McCarthy’s arrival in Pittsburgh started a new conversation and now Steelers nation await Rodgers’ decision. He is not expected to wait until June again to make his decision, but as the days go by, the situation gets blurrier.

Amid all the rumors, a new possibility might have surfaced for the defending AFC North champions.

On Saturday, Bleacher Report’s Moe Morton named Mac Jones as an alternative to Rodgers. Pittsburgh could trade for Jones and sign Rodgers. The addition of the 49ers star could solve the quarterback issue for the Steelers in 2026 and beyond.

“The Pittsburgh Steelers might be one of the teams that inquired about Jones. They will likely have to pay a steep price for him, but the 27-year-old could be a solution that keeps them out of quarterback limbo for the foreseeable future,” wrote Moton.

“Even if Aaron Rodgers returns to Pittsburgh, the Steelers can sign Jones to an extension before 2027, giving them a long-term quarterback plan.”

The 49ers have stated that they don’t want to part ways with Jones. It won’t be cheap for the Steelers, but they could make a swing for the renewed Jones.
