Roman Anthony’s Sister Lia Drops Surreal Take On Brother’s WBC Performance [VIDEO]
Attention follows Roman Anthony wherever he goes, and this time, it wasn’t about the swing. The 21-year-old’s breakout run in the 2026 World Baseball Classic had already impressed us, but his semifinal heroics took it to another level. A clutch solo shot against the Dominican Republic stamped his arrival, literally.
And even in the final, despite Team USA falling short against Venezuela on March 17, the bigger takeaway was clear. Roman Anthony is no prospect anymore. He’s trending toward centerpiece status, backed by elite production: 7 RBIs, a .400 OBP, and a spot on the All-WBC Team.
On March 18, during an appearance with WEEI Sports, his sister Lia Anthony summed up the moment in the prettiest way possible. Watching her younger brother deliver on that stage, she quoted,
“It’s been surreal.”
That reaction hits different because it comes with context. Lia had already gone viral during his MLB debut in 2025, but this was bigger. This was global. Be it Fenway buzz or WBC spotlight, the Anthony family has been right there for the ride, and now, so is the baseball world.
Roman Anthony Levels Up With Elite WBC Run After Breakout Rookie Season
Anthony backed up his 2025 breakout with a sharp, efficient 2026 WBC run. In 71 MLB games, he hit .292 with a .396 OBP and .859 OPS, finishing third in AL Rookie of the Year voting with a 140 OPS+, the best by a 21-year-old Red Sox hitter since Ted Williams.
In the WBC, the production got tighter and louder. Roman Anthony posted a .920 OPS with a .520 slugging percentage, while driving in 7 runs in just seven games, tied for the tournament lead. He also earned All-WBC honors and delivered a record-setting semifinal homer at age 21.
The Red Sox already made their move, locking him into an eight-year, $130M extension in August 2025.
