Walker Buehler Reveals Why He Ditched The Phillies Over The Padres
Two-time Dodgers World Series champion Walker Buehler never thought he would find himself in another uniform. Despite securing the final out for the Dodgers’ World Series win in 2024, Buehler found himself waiting for an opportunity.
The Dodgers never extended Buehler after he struggled on the mound. The pitcher managed to secure a deal with the Boston Red Sox, but things went south with the team. He was released by the Red Sox and reported to Triple-A. Luckily, Walker Buehler found his way to Philadelphia in the middle of the season.
The Phillies saw no progress with Buehler on the mound, but the club wanted to re-sign the veteran pitcher. However, it was Buehler who picked the San Diego Padres over the Phillies.
Walker Buehler Picked The Padres To Secure A Pitching Spot
Buehler never pitched much with the Phillies. Injuries made things worse for the veteran, and he believes that the Phillies would not have a spot for him with a crowded rotation. Despite the Phillies parting ways with Ranger Suarez, they are expected to bring in Andrew Painter.
“Obviously, they have a lot of starters in Philly, and a big-boy prospect *Andrew Painter* that’s coming up that I think is going to make the team. The opportunity wasn’t just kind of where I want it to be, and I’m definitely excited to be a part of this team,” Walker Buehler said.

The Padres have not given Buehler an opportunity just yet in their starting rotation. The pitcher will need to work his way to the top from the minor leagues. Walker Buehler must rebound and get back in shape to stay active in the league.
The pitcher mentioned that he finds it weird to play in the NL West in the same division as the Dodgers. Buehler recently received backlash from MLB fans for his latest comment on the ABS.
