Vanderbilt Commodores star quarterback Diego Pavia will have to go the extra mile to make it to an NFL roster. Pavia spent the last two seasons of his college career with Vanderbilt, improving his level each season.

He went 267 of 378 for 3,539 yards and 29 touchdowns with eight interceptions in 2025.

After finishing second in the Heisman Award voting, it seemed that Pavia was NFL-bound, except that teams had different plans. He went undrafted during the three-day event and now will have to find alternatives to play in the pros.

In the wake of Pavia’s dramatic draft, Cory Woodrof of USA Today’s “For The Win” explained the different factors that made NFL teams resist the quarterback.

“Well, the prolific Commodores starter and Heisman finalist doesn’t have the prototypical size that NFL teams usually like from the position at the next level,” Woodrof said. “His play is supremely confident but occasionally spotty in the passing game.

“Injury concerns could arise as he faces NFL defenses, particularly with how aggressive Pavia plays and how much he uses his legs to scramble and gain yardage.”

He added that Pavia could back up Cam Ward in Tennessee, where he became a star with the Commodores. Other options could include going to the UFL or CFL to prove his value to NFL executives.
