Atlanta Dream Coach Drops Bold Super Bowl Comparison While Praising Angel Reese

The party has just begun for the Atlanta Dream, as the franchise is ready to break the shackles of ‘playoff team’ status and compete for the championship. The 2008 franchise won three conference titles but never won a championship. Right now, they are leading the league with a record, and a big change that the franchise made to achieve a solid start is the addition of Angel Reese.
The forward had a dicey start to her Atlanta Career and is now a match-winner for the team, setting high standards on both ends of the floor with her dominance in the paint.
While the team is playing with high intensity, the opponents are also pushing them to the limit, and coach Karl Smesko feels the season’s toughness. He sees playoff basketball-level intensity early in the season. “When teams are playing Atlanta, this is a big game for everybody now and we are going to see everybody’s best shot,” the coach said in the press conference.

He added that the teams are playing their bets against the Dream, which is making the Atlanta franchise better and better over the course of the season.
A recent victory over the 2025 Finalists, the Phoenix Mercury, was one example of his side doing it all and fighting for the win. Reese was a crucial part of that victory and also celebrated the same with a savage post on social media.
Statistically, though, there is room for improvement for the star.
Angel Reese Still Has Same Issue At Atlanta Dream
The reason the Chicago Sky project didn’t work for the former LSU star was clear. She had no support on the roster and was constantly a target for the opposition team. On the Atlanta side, though, the 24-year-old is playing alongside All-Stars who draw much perimeter defense, allowing her to control the paint.
But one aspect the player needs to improve is her conversion from the paint area. Despite recording double-double stats in most of the games, the scoring average is 12.8, which is nearly equal to her rebounding average of 11.4. The reason for this disparity is her poor shooting as she is banking only 40.7% from the field, despite attempting more shots around the rim.

Coach Karl Smesko is not worried about that at the moment, but will look for improvement as the season progresses and ‘the actual’ playoffs approach.
