Jemele Hill Unleashes Surprising Thoughts On What She Thinks Should Have Happened To Karmelo Anthony

A lot has been said about Karmelo Anthony, and now Jemele Hill is breaking her silence.
The former ESPN personality and sports media host was just like millions of others who were tuned in to the trial. Anthony was convicted of murder for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The incident occurred in April 2025 at a high school track and field meet in Frisco, Texas.
Hours later, a Collin County jury sentenced him to 35 years in prison. Anthony had claimed he acted in self-defense. However, prosecutors successfully argued that the stabbing was intentional. Anthony has since filed a notice of appeal regarding his conviction.
Jemele Hill Feels “Sad” for Karmelo Anthony

Hill weighed in on Karmelo Anthony’s conviction this week, saying she feels “terribly sad” for Anthony because his defense lawyer was white.
“This is just terribly sad,” she wrote in a post on Threads. “Also, there were black attorneys that reached out, but there are some hard lessons in this case that our community needs to remember.”
“Let this be a lesson to us, especially to teach our young black boys,” Hill said on her podcast “SPOLITICS Live!” on Wednesday.
“We need to be having conversations with our young black boys regarding emotional regulation, and decision making, and discernment and wisdom,” she added. Jemele added she believes Karmelo Anthony should have been convicted of a lesser crime, not first-degree murder.
“I do believe that Karmelo Anthony should have been convicted of a crime. I don’t think it should have been first-degree murder. I think he should have been convicted of a lesser crime because of the unequal and imbalance in the level of force that was applied.”
She added: “We have to have [these conversations]. To save them.
Hill knows all about controversy. She was famously suspended by ESPN in 2017. Hill tweeted that fans should boycott the Cowboys’ advertisers. It followed Jerry Jones stating that players who don’t respect the American flag will not play for the Cowboys. There was also the time she called Donald Trump a white supremacist.
