Pressure is building hard and fast on the San Antonio Spurs. With harsh criticisms coming in, things are looking quite bleak for Mitch Johnson and his team. A team touted to dominate the NBA finals just a couple of days back is now fighting for their survival. And with Victor Wembanyama shouldering a lot of responsibilities, his one costly mistake gave the New York Knicks a much-needed win.

The Knicks won the game 105-104. But in the late stretch of the game, the Spurs seemed to have sprung to life. Going for a 14-0 run, the 22-year-old and his team threatened to take the game away. However, even though that did not happen, Magic Johnson pointed out that a single turnover by Wemby changed the outcome.

“Victor Wembanyama played a spectacular game tonight with 29 points and 9 rebounds, but his turnover in the closing seconds proved too costly for the Spurs to get the win,” wrote Johnson on X.

During the final moments of the game, the 7-foot-4 star found himself in isolation. Unfortunately, with Stephon  Castle and others failing to provide him support, the 22-year-old went for the shot over Mitchell Robinson. Since Wemby missed it, the resulting play resulted in a turnover, followed by a foul.

Meanwhile, as the Spurs will look to make a strong comeback in the all-important Game 3, Johnson heaped praise on the Knicks’ stars.

Jalen Brunson battled some really fiery moments to guide his team to a coveted victory. Together with Karl-Anthony Towns, the 29-year-old accounted for 41 points. Not only did KAT top-score for his team and grab 13 rebounds, but he also accomplished the difficult task of keeping Wembanyama at bay. And such a stellar performance did not go unnoticed by Johnson.

“Karl-Anthony Towns was impressive on both ends of the floor, dominating the first half and making nothing easy for Wembanyama defensively, finishing with 21 points and 13 rebounds,” Johnson wrote.

At the moment, the series looks to be heavily tilted in the Knicks’ favor. But a team like the Spurs can always find a way to fight back.
