Soccer player Hector Bello has shared some heartbreaking news on Instagram following earthquakes in Venezuela.

Bello’s wife, Andrea, was killed in the devastating double quakes that struck the country on Wednesday. She died shielding their one‑year‑old daughter, Alana, who miraculously survived and was rescued from the rubble.

Two massive quakes, magnitudes 7.1 and 7.5, hit within a minute of each other, ranking among the strongest to shake Venezuela in more than a century, according to the Associated Press. Entire neighborhoods crumbled as streets split open, with residents vanishing in seconds.

The Sun reported that Andrea’s body was later pulled from the wreckage.

Bello, a defender for second‑division side Marítimo de La Guaira, shared a heartfelt tribute to his wife on Instagram.

“You’ll always be our favorite heroine, Mommy,” he wrote in Spanish. “I’ll make sure our baby girl knows how wonderful you were — how much you loved her, how you saved her. You gave your life for our daughter.”

“You were brave, Mommy,” he added. “You never abandoned her, even as you breathed your last. But you left my soul shattered. You left me to fight this battle alone — a fight we always said was ours to face together.”

Bello also shared a photo of his daughter, who is shown with a black eye and a bandaged arm.

“Oh, my daughter… Mommy needs you to be strong—just wait for me a little longer,” he wrote in another post addressing her directly. “I need *you* to be the one to heal my heart, because right now it’s in pieces. You won’t see your daddy looking strong or smiling like always, but I promise I’ll heal and make you the happiest girl in the world.

“Now it’s just you and me—and your mommy, who will be watching over us from heaven. I know Andrea will give me strength; I know she sees what I’m going through and is suffering for us, too. But amidst all this pain, I know that if she had just a minute to say something to me, she’d tell me to protect you with my life—just as she did—and never to forget to buy you those bananas you love so much. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭.”

At least 589 people are dead, and more than 4,300 are injured after the twin earthquakes flattened buildings and erased entire blocks in the South American country.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected.
