Lionel Messi’s dad Jorge Messi has died at the age of 68. The news broke on Friday night in Rosario, Argentina. Local media first reported the death before Newell’s Old Boys confirmed it.
Jorge passed away in a hospital near the family home around 10 pm local time on August 7. He had faced ongoing health problems for several months. The family kept many details private during his battle.
Newell’s Old Boys released a statement calling him a recognized fan and the pillar behind Lionel’s career.

Lionel Messi’s dad served as his agent and business manager for decades. He stood by his son from the early days at Newell’s Old Boys through the move to Barcelona’s La Masia. Jorge helped navigate the historic years in Spain and the later transfers to Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami.
