Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is dealing with a frustrating soft-tissue injury in his groin and hip. The issue originally developed during a game and has severely impacted his overall on-field explosiveness. Although the team initially listed it as a hip ailment, it is primarily a severe groin issue.

Subsequently, head coach Sean McVay caused concern by stating that Nacua was “not making great progress” recently. McVay later clarified the specific nature of the soreness by describing the unique sensation to reporters.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared an encouraging report regarding Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua. According to league sources, Nacua can functionally play football despite a lingering groin injury. However, the star wideout simply has not felt like he can perform with his trademark explosive speed. Fortunately, the Rams organization officially views this setback as a short-term issue. Schefter stated that “the organization does not believe surgery in this situation will be needed.”

He did note that surgery is “not entirely off the table” if Nacua fails to improve.

Nonetheless, the veteran insider emphasized that no one inside the building expects a surgical procedure to take place. If his health trends in the right direction, Nacua could potentially return to the field next week.

Sports medicine specialist Dr. Jesse Morse shared his medical analysis regarding Los Angeles Rams wideout Puka Nacua.

He evaluated Adam Schefter’s update that the organization does not believe surgery is currently required. Instead, Morse interpreted the reporter’s specific phrasing as a strong indicator of a potential hidden problem. He offered a blunt timeline for the receiver’s recovery depending on how his body responds.

Morse noted on X that Nacua will “either return in Week 4 or miss 6 weeks.” He clarified that a longer absence would happen “due to a sports hernia surgery.” Consequently, the doctor believes that a surgical route remains a realistic threat despite recent denials by the team. He added, “Yeah, that’s what I hear when I read this,” to summarize his professional interpretation.

It’s been a rough offseason for Puka Nacua, as he previously admitted that he started to drown himself in alcohol due to stress. Missing time on the field is certainly not helping that cause.
