ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler already questioned multiple league executives and scouts for all the major award winners in 2026. Their response was surprising.
When it comes to the Most Valuable Player award, non-quarterback players have a bleak chance of winning one. It’s usually a battle between two or three QBs for the title. The last non-QB to hoist the MVP trophy was Adrian Peterson in 2012.
To no one’s surprise, the executives and the scouts predicted that another quarterback would win it again.
Joe Burrow Became The Trendy Pick To Win The NFL’s MVP Award
Last year, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford took home the hardware. At 37, he was the oldest player in league history to win the prestigious award.
Now, NFL executives and scouts believe that it’s Bengals superstar Joe Burrow who will win the MVP.
According to an AFC executive who spoke with ESPN, “He (Burrow) senses the urgency this year and is talking like it — I think he’s ready to back it up. If he stays healthy. Big if.”
The last part is indeed a big if. Last season, Burrow missed nine games for the Bengals. He reportedly suffered a severe turf toe injury. Cincinnati struggled without its star QB, going 1-8 in the games he missed.
But if we look at what he did in the 2024 season, he put up MVP-like numbers. He threw 4,918 yards and had 43 touchdowns during that year. If he’s healthy heading into the 2026 season, he’s going to be favored to win the NFL MVP.
Burrow Feels That This Is The Bengals’ Year
Last season, the Bengals started the year 5-3 with a healthy Burrow. But after his toe injury, their season quickly fell apart.
The upcoming 2026 season might not be too far from their showing last year, though. Even though Joe Burrow is healthy, some of his favorite targets on offense are nursing injuries.
However, he’s still confident that this will be the year for the Cincinnati Bengals to win it all.
“I just want to win this year. I just want to win. The rest will take care of itself. I think we’ll break a bunch of records eventually, but I think we’re going to have a really good team that has a chance to win every game that we step foot on the field for. I don’t know about you, but I could really feel it in my bones and my soul in OTAs this year — different from years past,” he said via FOX Sports.
If the Bengals win it all, the NFL executives’ predictions on the MVP award might be on point.
