During a recent broadcast of The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, host Greg Hill and former player Jermaine Wiggins discussed a massive internal rumor. They explicitly revealed information from a team source detailing an active structural rift inside the New England Patriots organization.
According to their internal building source, head coach Mike Vrabel and quarterback Drake Maye are experiencing severe tension. This underlying friction stems directly from the claim that Maye was simply never Vrabel’s preferred choice at quarterback.
Wiggins emphasized the coach’s rigid personnel philosophy, stating, “Mike Vrabel is a ‘his guy’ kinda coach.” Consequently, the radio hosts concluded that Vrabel never truly considered Maye to be his franchise quarterback from day one.

Drake Maye is enduring an incredibly difficult and highly disappointing slump during the 2026 NFL season.
He currently leads the entire league with seven costly turnovers after a string of poor performances. Maye has completed just 51 out of 80 pass attempts for a lackluster 585 total yards. This low production has resulted in an underwhelming average of only 7.3 yards per downfield throw. Furthermore, his accuracy issues have resulted in six interceptions against a single solitary touchdown pass.
These constant miscues have caused his overall passer rating to plummet to a miserable 58.6 mark. The young signal-caller also looks visibly uncomfortable holding onto the football for far too long. Opposing pass rushes have violently sacked the young quarterback nine times during this brief stretch.
Without good quarterback play, the Patriots will go nowhere.
