It looks like the Arizona Cardinals are finally ready to part ways with Marvin Harrison Jr. The team has reportedly agreed to trade the young receiver to an unnamed team before Sunday’s Week 5 game against the Detroit Lions. ESPN insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport broke the story and confirmed Harrison won’t be playing.

“The team informed Harrison this morning that he will be inactive for Sunday’s game vs Detroit as details of the trade are finalized,” Schefter posted on X.

The move follows weeks of talk about Harrison’s future in Arizona. The former No. 4 overall pick has had a hard time finding a regular role under new head coach Mike LaFleur. Because he hasn’t been producing much, people started wondering where he really fit in the offense, and now the Cardinals seem ready to make a move.

Even with his slow start this year, Arizona should still be able to get a solid return for him. That said, what the Cardinals are asking for in a trade has made things tricky for interested teams.

Reporter Tom Pelissero recently said that Arizona had gotten “several calls” from teams asking about Harrison. According to Pelissero, the Cardinals wanted a second-round pick and maybe another mid-round pick back in a trade.

Even with all the trade rumors flying around, general manager Monti Ossenfort wasn’t really looking to give Harrison up. Pelissero pointed out that Ossenfort wasn’t “eager” to let him go after the team spent the No. 4 overall pick on him in 2024.

Harrison showed promise during his rookie season. He caught 62 passes for 885 yards and eight touchdowns, setting career highs in all three categories. However, injuries limited him to 12 games last season, when he recorded 41 catches for 608 yards and four touchdowns.

His role has shrunk even further this season. Through four games, Harrison has managed just five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Michael Wilson has emerged as an easy target in Arizona’s passing game. Wilson caught 78 passes for 1,006 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He has continued that form in 2026, leading the Cardinals with 258 receiving yards while recording 25 catches and one touchdown.

Veteran slot receiver Kendrick Bourne has also moved ahead of Harrison in the pecking order. Bourne has recorded 12 receptions for 108 yards this season.

The Cardinals also have some big-money choices to think about. Pelissero reported that Harrison still has $6.3 million in guaranteed money left on his deal, plus a team option for 2028.

It’s going to be tough for Arizona to justify picking up that option if he barely sees the field. Trading him now lets the team get something back for their investment instead of risking losing him for nothing down the road.
