The Paraguayan football club Sportivo Ameliano intended to send a clear message to a female photographer, but it backfired on them.

The club found itself in a social media firestorm after a dress code for journalists and photographers covering an upcoming match was leaked. Those rules banned shorts, plunging necklines, and any clothing that showed off the stomach.

What made the rules so crazy was that they seemed to target sports photographer Adriana Caballero. However, she would end up having the last laugh.

The dress code enforced by Sportivo Ameliano called for ‘sporty elegance’ and extra restrictions for women. It was immediately called out for being out of touch. Following the backlash, Ameliano’s president, Héctor Melgarejo, apologized for the ban and made it clear that the club never signed off on the dress code.

“I’m really sorry this happened. It didn’t come from the club, it wasn’t official—it was something the press officer did on her own, without any authorization from us,” Melgarejo explained.

It wasn’t just Caballero that it was targeting. There was also the outfit of sports reporter Sabina JákÅ¡ová, who went viral for her interview with David Oulehla. The coach was seemingly fighting for his life not to stare at her.

Sports photographer Adriana Caballero made sure her voice was heard as well.

“I always dress for comfort. When I read the memo, I was shocked, but I thought: well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. This could hurt my fellow journalists,” she said.

In the end, Sportivo Ameliano dropped the dress code and later clarified that the rules did not reflect the club’s values.
