An NHL hot mic moment caused a major stir on social media on Wednesday. The NHL has had its fair share of wild moments to start the season, including a vicious knockout from Uvis Balinskis to Colin Graft at the start of October.

Team USA hero Jack Hughes also shot down a reporter over a distasteful injury joke during a live interview. As the weeks have gone by, more of these types of stories have occurred across the league.

During the Minnesota Wild-Edmonton Oilers game, fans were shocked by a hot mic moment.

A short clip shared by Bussin’ With the Boys on X showed a referee preparing to make an announcement. Before he turned on the microphone, fans heard somebody criticize goalies with a slur.

“Every goalie is r——ed,” the voice said.

The source of the comment became a topic of debate, while other fans focused solely on the statement.

“If he gets in trouble for this, then that would be r——d,” one commented.

“As a tender of goals… this statement is not wrong,” another said.

“As a retired goalie, this is a factual statement. No harm. No foul. Play on,” one added.

“Who was he talking to? Do refs have some kind of earpiece communication with eachother? Or was he talking to himself?” one asked.

“If someone gets in trouble over this that would be incredibly lame,” another said.

A woman laughed immediately after the comment, but that person hasn’t been identified, either. The league or the teams haven’t issued a statement on the situation at this time.
