Powerade Takes Direct Shot At Sydney Sweeney With Their New Ads [VIDEO]

Powerade has taken a pop at actress Sydney Sweeney on the back of her involvement in a controversial ad.
Novig released its Just Sports ad featuring a fully nude Sweeney.
The spot shows Sydney Sweeney naked, with strategically placed sports equipment obscuring her privates.
Several Olympic athletes criticized the ad, which has also been condemned in several corners of the sporting world.
Powerade has now joined the criticism.
The Coca-Cola-owned brand released a set of videos celebrating women athletes across track and field, swimming and tennis. Each video ends with the message “Never Just Sports.”
“There is no just in sports,” one caption reads, alongside the hashtag #PowerYourLegacy.

IBTimes reports that the campaign also ran on a Times Square billboard created by Ogilvy and WPP Open X.
While Powerade has not named Sweeney, it’s pretty clear that they built the campaign with her in mind.

Novig Answered The Backlash With A Second Sweeney Ad Sunday

Meanwhile, Novig has not backed down. The company released a second Sweeney ad on Sunday.
“There are grown men making spreadsheets to bet on what color underwear I’m wearing,” she says in the ad.
Novig CEO Jacob Fortinsky has defended the company’s focus. Sweeney also holds equity in Novig, according to Front Office Sports.
“We’re a prediction market focused on sports,” Fortinsky said.
Fortinsky also said Novig has “enormous respect” for female athletes.

The ads have also caused a stir within the MLB amid the playoffs.
Dodgers outfielder Alex Call posted a complaint on X Wednesday.
He asked MLB and its broadcast partners to pull the ads from postseason games. Fans at Dodger Stadium gave him a standing ovation during Game 3 of the NLCS, that report says.
