BREAKING: Police Investigating After New Mexico State University Soccer Player Found Dead
Police are investigating the death of a soccer player who attended the New Mexico State University and was discovered dead in her home earlier this week.
According to TMZ, 20-year-old Thalia Chaverria was found to be unresponsive before police were called to her New Mexico home around 7:00 AM on Monday morning. She was dead when the police arrived.
The authorities do not suspect foul play as they have no reason to believe that the student’s death is suspicious or resulted from criminal activity.
“[Monday] we lost an amazing young woman, and we are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of a member of our Aggie family,” the school’s director, Mario Moccia said in a statement. “Thalia had a vibrant personality and those who were fortunate enough to spend time with her knew she had a bright future ahead of her.
“The New Mexico State community is very tight-knit, and this tragedy is felt throughout. Our most sincere thoughts and prayers go out to Thalia’s family and friends in this time of mourning.”
Thalia’s coach, Rob Baarts also offered a statement on the unfortunate development.
“The sudden loss of Thalia has completely rocked our Aggie soccer families’ world,” he said. “T was an inspiration and rock to this team. She will be missed but not forgotten. Her spirit will be with us every day, on and off the pitch. I will always love you T!”
Chaverria who played as a defender, started 20 games for the Aggies last season and was headed into her third campaign with the program. She was set for a major role after the school won its first-ever WAC conference title.
Her family has started a GoFundMe to help with burial expenses.
