REPORT: James Harden Is “Determined” To Play For One Team And One Team Only
All-Star point guard James Harden already wants out after joining the Philadelphia 76ers via trade from the Brooklyn Nets last February.
The former MVP has exercised his player option for next season but wants to leave Philadelphia as he is reported to be upset with the way Daryl Morey handled his situation given that he was headed into free agency this summer, prior to his triggering of said option.
Teammate Joel Embiid recently told Rachel Nichols that he was hopeful the guard would decide to remain with the Sixers. But, according to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Harden’s stance hasn’t changed and he still wants to be traded.
Amick’s report adds that the player is “determined” to play for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2023/24 as it appears he’s keen on forming a Big 3 with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in an effort to win a championship.
“Harden’s stance has not changed, a source close to him told The Athletic,” Amick writes. “He still wants to leave Philadelphia. He’s still upset with how Morey handled his situation heading into possible free agency last month.
“Even with the recent revelation that Harden attended the same NBPA party as Sixers co-star Joel Embiid and former Sixers owner Michael Rubin in Vegas, he’s still determined to start next season in a Clippers jersey.”
Harden averaged 21.0 points per game on 44 percent shooting from the field and 39 from long distance in Philly last season, also leading the NBA in assists with 10.7 a night, adding 6.1 rebounds per contest.
A possible reunion with the Rockets had also been rumored but sources have since revealed that new head coach Ime Udoka does not want the 10-time All-Star on his roster.
