New Favorites Emerge To Replace The Fired Jeff Van Gundy On ESPN’s Top NBA Broadcast Team
Frontrunners have emerged in the sweepstakes to replace veteran announcer Jeff Van Gundy following his departure from ESPN.
Van Gundy’s firing was perhaps the most surprising when the network made its latest round of cuts late last month.
Since joining The Worldwide Leader in Sports back in 2007, Van Gundy has called a remarkable 17 NB Finals, sitting alongside Mike Breen and Mark Jackson. His departure has undoubtedly left many NBA fans disappointed as his in-game analysis, humor, and calling out bad officiating will be missed.
Replacing him is going to be a tall task for the company. And, according to Front Office Sports, JJ Redick has “zoomed to the top of the contenders’ list to join ESPN’s top NBA game broadcast team.”
Doris Burke is also considered to be a favorite, while Richard Jefferson and Doc Rivers are also understood to be under consideration. While FOS has Redick down as the overwhelming favorite, the Boston Globe’s Chad Finn reports that it will either be Burke or Rivers who replaces SVG alongside Jackson and Breen.
Redick has risen fast at ESPN and his perspectives are often very intriguing. However, it’s thought that ESPN would not pass up the opportunity to promote Burke, who has been working with Mark Jones on secondary ESPN or ABC broadcasts.
