BREAKING: Carolina Panthers Release Notable Quarterback Following Preseason Loss To Lions
It’s that time of year again, when NFL teams are forced to scramble and make key personnel decisions as they trim their rosters down to the appropriate size for the start of the regular season.
We’ve already seen some notable names get cut and the latest came today, when the Carolina Panthers announced that they would be parting ways with quarterback Jake Luton.
Luton was among 11 Panthers players who were released by the team today. He was joined by four other offensive players, five defensive players and a kicker.
The former Oregon State quarterback struggled in his final outing with the Panthers, completing just 6 of 12 pass attempts for 74 yards and an interception during Friday’s 26-17 preseason loss to the Lions. He was signed by the Panthers less than a month ago after spending time with the Saints, Dolphins, Seahawks and Jaguars — with the latter having selected him in the 6th round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
With Luton gone, it appears as though the Panthers will begin the new season with first-overall pick Bryce Young being backed up by Andy Dalton and Matt Corral. Carolina will open up their 2023 campaign on the road in Atlanta two weeks from now.
