BREAKING: Carolina Panthers Sign 4-Time Pro Bowl Pass-Rusher To Bolster Their Defense
The Carolina Panthers have added a standout veteran and four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher to strengthen an already stout front seven.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Panthers have signed linebacker Justin Houston to a one-year contract. The 34-year-old spent the previous two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
Houston joins a Carolina defense led by superstar pass rusher Brian Burns (a team-leading 12.5 sacks last season), Frankie Luvu (seven sacks), defensive tackle Derrick Brown and shutdown corner Jaycee Horn.
A proud member of the career 100-sack club (111.5 for his career), Houston turned back the clock last year and tallied 9.5 sacks for the Ravens in 2022. His efforts helped Baltimore to a wild card berth, but they were eliminated by the Cincinnati Bengals in the opening round.
Houston had his best years with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played from 2011 to 2018. In that span, Houston was named to four Pro Bowls and led the NFL in sacks with 22 during the 2014 season.
He was vital in the Chiefs’ turnaround with Andy Reid in 2013. Kansas City recorded six straight winning seasons from 2013 to 2018 with Houston and qualified for the postseason five times, going as far as the AFC Championship Game in 2018.
The Chiefs released Houston in 2019 as they underwent a major change on their defensive unit. He then spent the next two years with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Ravens.
