BREAKING: Cleveland Browns Lose Veteran Wide Receiver For Season With A Ruptured Patellar Tendon
The Cleveland Browns were dealt some bad news on Sunday: Tests confirmed that veteran wide receiver and special teams returner Jakeem Grant is out for the year with a ruptured patellar tendon.
Grant suffered the injury in the team’s preseason game during a kick return against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport broke the news.
It’s an extremely unfortunate break for Grant, who also missed the entire 2022 season after suffering a torn Achilles in a practice. Earlier in the offseason, Grant had signed a three-year deal with the AFC North club.
Grant was coming off his first career Pro Bowl nod in the 2021 season that was split with the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears. He had 539 kick return yards, 309 punt return yards and one touchdown to go along with 165 yards of offense and two touchdowns.
In 2018 and 2021, Grant finished with 1,000 all-purpose yards, including a career-high 1,036 in the former year. Grant has put up over 600 all-purpose yards every year since he entered the NFL as a rookie in 2016.
For his career, Grant has 1,140 receiving yards, 76 rushing yards, 1,228 punt return yards and 2,699 kick return yards.
The Browns, looking to get back into the postseason for the first time in three years, will open the 2023 season with a home contest against Joe Burrow and the AFC rival Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 10.
