It feels as if all NFL media and fans believe the Jets are doomed with Wilson being forced to take over starting quarterback duties due to the significant injury to Aaron Rodgers.
A poor performance against a division rival might have the Jets thinking about looking elsewhere.
Despite not being able to play, Rodgers is still staying close to the team and making sure Wilson is ready for what is to come on Sunday. According to Rodgers, the No. 2 pick has to play “free and confident” against the Patriots.
“I talk to Zach all the time,” Rodgers said. “I love Zach. Zach’s my guy. I’m pulling for him. We talk every single day. Just want him to go out and play free and confident this week. Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Jets haven’t beaten them in a while. So, good time to end the streak.”
Wilson is 0-4 against Bill Belichick, throwing just two touchdowns and seven interceptions in those games.
Wilson ended up getting benched by the New York Jets following his November 20, 2022, post-game presser versus the New England Patriots after the former BYU product didn’t take accountability for his own struggles during the 10-3 loss and seemingly threw his teammates under the bus.
Wilson had the worst game of his career as he threw for a career-low 77 passing yards and the team converted just six first downs all night.
Wilson got benched multiple last year and was expected to sit this year and possibly next learning from Rodgers, but things changed quickly in Week One.
The Jets as a team have made it clear that this is “Zach’s team” with Aaron Rodgers on the shelf with a torn Achilles. Now his teammates are rallying around him ahead of a pivotal Week 3 matchup.
