Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Michigan Wolverines’ head coach Jim Harbaugh is being linked to an NFL team’s HC position.

Harbaugh is in his ninth season with the Wolverines, where he’s compiled a 77-25-0 record to date. Harbaugh coached Michigan to a Fiesta Bowl appearance last year, where they fell 51-45 to the TCU Horned Frogs.

Since returning to the college ranks nine years ago, there has been never-ending speculation that Harbaugh might eventually go back to the NFL. He met with the Denver Broncos for their head coaching position earlier this year but wound up going back to Michigan, and the AFC West club wound up hiring Sean Payton.

Speaking on Sportsnet 590 The Fan, Matt Marchese reported that Harbaugh has had “heavy discussions with” Justin Herbert’s Los Angeles Chargers about potentially taking over as the new head coach there.

The Chargers’ current head coach is Brandon Staley, but many believe the third-year HC is already on the hot seat. The Bolts entered this year with championship aspirations but are already 0-2, and a loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday would put a giant dent in their postseason hopes.

Harbaugh coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014, leading the club to three straight NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl 47 appearance. Harbaugh went 44-19-1 over his four seasons with the 49ers.
