BREAKING: Giants HC Brian Daboll Releases Surprising Injury Update For Saquon Barkley
The New York Giants’ offense suffered as star running back Saquon Barkley left the game early due to an ankle injury during their stunning comeback victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.
A Monday MRI showed that Barkley suffered an “ordinary” ankle sprain, per ESPN. The report stated he is expected to sideline him for three weeks, according to a source.
Despite that news, Giants coach Brian Daboll further stated Barkley will be a game-time decision for Thursday Night Football.
Barkley racked up 1,650 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns last year for the Giants. On Sunday against Arizona, Barkley rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.
Matt Breida, Gary Brightwell, and rookie Eric Gray will try to fill the void in Barkley’s absence. The 28-year-old Breida is a veteran who recorded 2,463 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per rushing attempt in 43 games played for the 49ers.
Fortunately for New York, there are some better options available on both the open market and potentially via trade should they choose to go that route.
The 26-year is playing on a revised franchise tag this year. He’s set to become a free agent at the end of the season and was hoping to put himself in position for a significant payday.
Barkley has 114 yards rushing on 29 carries through two games this season.
