Dallas Cowboys Land Notable Young Wide Receiver For Dak Prescott In Blockbuster Trade Proposal
A blockbuster trade proposal has the Dallas Cowboys landing a struggling and former highly-touted wide receiver from an NFC rival.
The Cowboys are off to a superb 2-0 start, with blowout wins over the New York Giants (40-0) and New York Jets (30-10) in Weeks 1 and 2, respectively. Dak Prescott and company will try to move to 3-0 on the year when they visit the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday.
A team with Super Bowl aspirations like the Cowboys should be keen on adding another impact player or two ahead of this year’s trade deadline. Could one such player be Chicago Bears’ wideout Chase Claypool?
Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine proposed three trade ideas for the Cowboys heading into Week 3. Ballentine made the case for the Cowboys to pursue Claypool, whose lackluster play has been well-documented:
“If the Bears are desperate to unload him, they probably will do it at a discounted price.
Claypool’s cap hit is only $3 million this season, so there’s little financial risk to it either.
At best, he would be rejuvenated by playing for a winning team with a real chance to contend and emerge as yet another weapon for Dak Prescott. At worst, his poor effort continues, and the Cowboys can cut bait at a relatively low cost.
Claypool is a gifted receiver when he’s at his best. He is a big, physical presence who isn’t quite like anyone else the Cowboys have and would provide some insurance against an injury like the MCL sprain that held Brandin Cooks out of Week 2.”
The Bears acquired Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick that wound up being the No. 32 selection. The trade has quickly become a disaster for the Bears, with Claypool’s efforts coming into question by teammates.
In nine games with the Bears dating back to last year, Claypool has just 17 catches for 176 yards and a touchdown. His production is a far cry from what we saw in 2020 and 2021, when Claypool put up over 50 catches and more than 800 receiving yards.
Claypool could definitely use a fresh start, and a team with a top-five offense like Dallas could definitely manage to fully unlock his potential.
