Power Ranking All 32 NFL Teams No. 1 Running Back From WORST To FIRST After Week 3
Here we are three weeks through the NFL season, let’s take a look at the running backs around the league and see how they compare.
32. Green Bay Packers AJ Dillon (Last Week N/A)
The Packers run game has not looked good at all this year without Aaron Jones regularly in the mix. AJ Dillon was really struggled to show any explosiveness and has just 107 yards through three games.
31. New York Giants Matt Breida (Last Week #30)
With the exception of a meaningless touchdown, Matt Breida has done nothing since getting slotted into the starting lineup for the injured Saquon Barkley.
Granted, his first start came against a vicious 49ers defense, but still, he has to manage more than 17 yards on four carries.
30. Chicago Bears Khalil Herbert (Last Week #27)
Week 3 was bad across the board for the Bears and Khalil Herbert is no exception. The struggling running back went for 31 yards on seven carries as his team got thumped by the Chiefs.
29. Houston Texans Dameon Pierce (Last Week #28)
Dameon Pierce may have gotten in the endzone this week, but he showed little indication that he is getting back to the guy we saw all of last year. He averaged just 2.2 yards per carry against a mediocre Jaguars defense.
28. New Orleans Saints Alvin Kamara (Last Week N/A)
With the way everyone not named Taysom Hill has been running the ball, New Orleans has to be happy to have Alvin Kamara reentering the mix. He hasn’t played a snap this season due to suspension, but he’s got enough of a resume to warrant a little blind faith.
27. Denver Broncos Javonte Williams (Last Week #26)
Nothing went well for the Broncos in Week 3, Javonte Williams included. He was handed the ball 11 times and managed only 42 yards in another underwhelming performance.
26. Pittsburgh Steelers Najee Harris (Last Week #29)
Week 3 was Najee Harris’ best game of the year so far, but there’s still reason for concern. He still appears to be lacking explosiveness and his output was rather modest (65 yards on 19 carries) all things considered.
25. Los Angeles Chargers Joshua Kelley (Last Week #23)
With the Chargers season hanging in the balance Joshua Kelley had a rather uninspiring performance. He carried the ball 11 times and netted only 12 yards. Hopefully, for the Chargers, they should be getting Austin Ekeler back soon.
24. Minnesota Vikings Alexander Mattison (Last Week #32)
Perhaps the acquisition of Cam Akers lit a fire beneath Mattison because the Vikings struggling running back had his best game of the year going for 93 yards on 20 carries.
23. Baltimore Ravens Gus Edwards (Last Week #19)
The Ravens may need to start looking for a new option to stand in for the injured J.K. Dobbins because Gus Edwards has looked pretty inconsistent thus far.
22. Los Angeles Rams Kyren Williams (Last Week #18)
This was not a great week for Kyren Williams. He chipped in two catches for 27 yards and took 10 rushes for 38 on the ground. Cinci’s defense is tough, but Williams needs to find a way to shed more tacklers or at least extend some runs.
21. New York Jets Breece Hall (Last Week #14)
Things are starting to go from bad to worse for Breece Hall, who has really struggled to find a role in this Jets offense thus far. Opposing teams are really starting to key in on the Jets run game to outright force Zach Wilson to beat them.
20. New England Patriots Rhamondre Stevenson (Last Week #17)
The big news out of New England is that Rhamondre Stevenson got just three more rushing attempts than Ezekiel Elliott in the win over the Jets. If Steveson wants any hope of retaining his starting job, he’ll have to do better than 59 yards on 19 rushes.
19. Carolina Panthers Miles Sanders (Last Week #13)
Miles Sanders was supposed to be a big acquisition this offseason and he’s been underwhelming. He did get into the endzone this week, but only netted 24 yards on nine carries, not the ROI Carolina was after.
18. Las Vegas Raiders Josh Jacobs (Last Week #24)
The Raiders embattled star had his best game of the year in Week 3 and it still wasn’t that great, just 62 yards on 17 attempts. At least he didn’t end in the negatives again.
17. Kansas City Chiefs Isiah Pacheco (Last Week #25)
Isiah Pacheco is starting really stand out in that impressive Chiefs offense. He is showing the same dynamic skillset as he did during the playoffs last year and the numbers should continue to improve.
16. Indianapolis Colts Zack Moss (Last Week #21)
Zack Moss was nearly unstoppable in Week 3. The Colts fed him over and over, 30 times to be exact and he totaled an impressive 122 yards and one touchdown.
15. Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Entienne Jr. (Last Week #20)
Entienne looked much improved this week. The former Clemson star had 19 carries for 88 yards and also caught four passes for 50 yards.
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rachaad White (Last Week #11)
Rachaad White was dropped three slots this week after is inefficient performance Monday Night against the Eagles. White carried the ball 14 times for just 38 yards in a dismal performance.
13. Seattle Seahawks Kenneth Walker III (Last Week #15)
The Seahawks second-year running back had his best game of the year by, going for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Kenneth Walker III is starting to better resemble the explosive runner we saw burst onto the scene towards the middle of 2022.
12. Cleveland Browns Jerome Ford (Last Week #10)
Jerome Ford continues to impress in Nick Chubb’s absence. He got in the endzone twice last week, once on the ground and once through the air against the Titans in a blowout.
11. Detroit Lions Jahmyr Gibbs (Last Week #16)
Jahmyr Gibbs had a great showing against the Falcons, managing 80 yards on 17 carries and he should continue to get more opportunities even with David Montgomery in the picture, thanks to his explosive running style.
10. Washington Commanders Brian Robinson (Last Week #7)
Brian Robinson was the lone bright spot this week against the Bills, averaging 7.0 yards per carry, but Buffalo had clearly backed off after going up early. If he can maintain that efficiency with an increased workload, he may start to climb the rankings.
9. Buffalo Bills James Cook (Last Week #8)
James Cook toted the rock last week in a stress-free matchup with the Washington Commander. He only got 15 carries but went for 98 yards in an efficient showing.
8. Cincinnati Bengals Joe Mixon (Last Week #12)
65 yards and a touchdown are somewhat pedestrian for Joe Mixon, but he also had a couple of clutch runs down the stretch of the Bengals win against L.A. to help seal the game.
7. Tennessee Titans Derrick Henry (Last Week #6)
After his 11 rush, 20-yard showing against the Browns, there seems to be a growing concern that we are about to witness the fall of King Henry. Luckily, he won’t have to go against the Browns nasty defense again, but he will need more out of his offensive line if he’s going to turn it around and avoid falling further in the rankings.
6. Atlanta Falcons Bijan Robinson (Last Week #2)
Week 3 wasn’t the dynamic rookie’s best showing, having gone for just 33 yards on 10 carries against a stout effort from the Lions’ defense. Look for more out of Robinson this week against Jacksonville.
5. Dallas Cowboys Tony Pollard (Last Week #9)
Tony Pollard had a breakout performance this week against the Cardinals. He went for 122 yards on 23 carries. If only the rest of the Cowboys hadn’t forgotten to show up, perhaps more folks would be talking about it.
4. Miami Dolphins Raheem Mostert (Last Week #4)
Explosiveness has never been the question about Raheem Mostert, more so, whether or not he can stay healthy. 2023 has gotten off to a great start for the Dolphins RB1, he’s gone for an insane 158 yards and three touchdowns on just 28 carries.
3. Arizona Cardinals James Conner (Last Week #5)
Another week and another steady performance from James Conner. He averaged 7.0 yards per carry for 98 yards and a touchdown against Dallas, which was believed to have a top defense in the league.
2. Philadelphia Eagles D'Andre Swift (Last Week #3)
In his second week as the full-time back for Philly D’Andre Swift had another monster outing, going for 130 yards on just 16 carries. If he can stay healthy he should be near the top of this list for the rest of the season.
1. San Francisco 49ers Christian McCaffrey (Last Week #1)
Christian McCaffrey had a relatively modest night in Week 3 to his standards, but that was largely because the Thursday Night Football matchup was essentially over within minutes of starting.
Not to mention, his “modesty” still includes 85 rushing yards, a touchdown, and five receptions for 34 yards.
