Tristan Thompson has revealed having gotten his ESPN gig through an unlikely celebrity.

The NBA forward, who is headed back to the Cleveland Cavaliers on a one-year deal, had a stint with The Worldwide Leader in Sports many considered to be strange given that he was not done playing.

Thompson made appearances on ‘NBA Today’ and ‘First Take’ in early 2023 before joining the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of the playoffs and playing some minutes which helped him land another deal with the Cavs.

Apart from that, Tristan had no experience in broadcasting, nor did he have a big interview personality, although he did play with LeBron James and helped Cleveland win a ring. His appointment came from nowhere as there was nothing to suggest he would be wading into the media world.

Tristan recently revealed that the job came about because someone made a call.

Speaking on this week’s episode of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’, the player thanked Kris Jenner for initiating the contact that got him the gig. Jenner, the mother of Thompson’s ex-girlfriend Khloe Kardashian, would go into detail about how she called someone at ABC to have them fit him in.

It appears Kris is a power broker in such spheres and, despite all of the embarrassing cheating scandals, she’s still looking out for Thompson, who is the father of Khloe’s two children.

The 67-year-old revealed having made the call on a Friday and Tristan was working by the Monday that followed.

“That never happens,” she said.

Getting back into the family’s good graces certainly paid off for Thompson.
