Grading All 32 NFL Teams Starting Quarterbacks After Week 12 Games
Week 12 saw some great quarterback play from the likes of Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Brock Purdy, and Jordan Love to name a few guys who claimed that finely roasted turkey leg prize after winning their battles against opposing defenses while other quarterbacks took a couple of steps back and regressed in other games even though we had an exciting slate of games from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday.
Let’s Talk Turkey- Here is where all 32 NFL Teams quarterbacks look after week 12 games:
Arizona Cardinals: Kyler Murray: C- (Last week C)
Kyler Murray is playing okay, but, the Cardinals all around him have struggled all season long. Murray completed 27 passes for 256 yards, threw a touchdown against zero interceptions, rushed for two yards on one carry, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked four times. Incompletions in key games truly hurt Murray and the Cardinals as they struggle to stay afloat against their division rival Los Angeles Rams in their 14-37 week 12 loss.
Atlanta Falcons: Desmond Ridder: C- (Last week Bye Week)
Desmond Ridder did not play his best game of the season, but, he could’ve played a lot worse even though the Falcons got the 24-15 win over the New Orleans Saints. Ridder completed 13 passes for 168 yards, threw one touchdown against two interceptions (both of them were caught by Tyran Mathieu), rushed for 30 yards on seven carries, and wasn’t sacked all game. Ridder has been a very inconsistent quarterback, all season long, even though the Falcons got the win. If he improves in week 13 and onward, the Falcons have a good chance of winning the division and returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson: B+ (Last week B+)
Lamar Jackson had himself a great night under the lights in Los Angeles as the Ravens defeated the LA Chargers 20-10. Jackson completed 18 passes for 177 yards and threw a touchdown pass against no interceptions but was sacked twice. Jackson also rushed for 39 yards on 11 carries on the night as he continues to lead one of the NFL’s hottest offenses to another statement win before Baltimore’s week 13 bye week for some well-needed rest and regrouping.
Buffalo Bills: Josh Allen: B- (Last week B)
Josh Allen had a great game, despite the Bills’ 34-37 overtime loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. He did everything he could to help the Bills get the win, only to be undone by an incomplete pass to Gabe Davis, who would’ve scored the game-winning touchdown in the overtime period. Allen completed 29 passes for 339 yards, threw two touchdowns against one interception, rushed for 81 yards on nine carries, and scored two rushing touchdowns but was sacked once. Allen is a great quarterback, but, was undone by a good number of incomplete passes (including the one that would’ve been a touchdown to Davis) if it wasn’t overthrown at the end of the evening.
Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young: F (Last week F+)
It was a brutal game for Bryce Young as he did not play well against the Tennessee Titans. Young completed 18 passes for 194 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for 23 yards on three carries but was sacked four times. It was a terrible performance by Young, but, the silver lining is he did not throw an interception. He did however, lose a fumble in the second quarter. Young’s struggles are never fun to watch. He needs to improve and get some more receivers involved so they can score more touchdowns for the Panthers if they have any chance to salvage what remains of their 2023 season although the Panthers have fired head coach Frank Wreich after the loss.
Chicago Bears: Justin Fields: C- (Last week C)
Justin Fields did not score any touchdowns in the Bears’ 12-10 victory on Monday Night Football, but, he proved himself to be a great game manager. Fields completed 27 passes for 217 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for 59 yards on 12 carries but was sacked three times. It wasn’t the most productive day for Fields, even though he helped guide the Bears to a well-earned victory against their NFC North rival, the Minnesota Vikings in enemy territory, which is all that matters at the end of the day.
Cincinnati Bengals: Jake Browning: C- (Last week C)
Jake Browning may not be an elite quarterback the likes of Joe Burrow, but, he did whatever he could to help the Bengals out despite losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 10-16. Browning completed 19 passes for 227 yards, threw a touchdown to Drew Sample against one interception, and rushed for nine yards on three carries but was sacked four times. Browning is a good game manager who just needs to play better and earn more wins for the Bengals if they want to remain in the playoff hunt.
Cleveland Browns: Dorian Thompson-Robinson: C- (Last week C)
Dorian Thompson-Robinson had an okay performance in the Browns’ week 12 12-29 loss to the Denver Broncos, however, he left the game with a concussion as PJ Walker took over for the remainder of play. Thompson-Robinson completed 14 passes for 134 yards, threw a touchdown pass to Harrison Bryant against zero interceptions, and rushed for 21 yards on five carries. Thompson-Robinson is trying to pick up the pieces for the Browns even though he left the game with a concussion. He may be out for some time, just as the Browns are trying to compete for a spot in the playoffs. If Thompson-Robinson can’t play in week 13, the Browns will have to turn to PJ Walker who did complete six passes for 56 yards but got sacked four times.
Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott: A (Last week A)
It was a spectacular performance from Dak Prescott as he came ready to eat some freshly cooked turkey in the Cowboys’ 45-10 victory over the Washington Commanders. Prescott completed 22 passes for 331 yards, threw four touchdowns against zero interceptions, and did not get sacked all game. Prescott’s victory was incredible! He can potentially take this Cowboys team to the NFC Championship, which would be a very sweet indeed. Something like some cranberry sauce in a Thanksgiving feast.
Denver Broncos: Russell Wilson: B- (Last week C+)
Russell Wilson played a good game against the visiting Cleveland Browns as the Broncos won their fifth straight game 29-12. Wilson completed 13 yards for 134 yards, threw one touchdown against zero interceptions, rushed for 34 yards on 11 carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked once all game. Wilson is starting to play much better in this second half of the season. This has helped the Broncos as a team overall and may set them up as a potential dark horse wildcard team, if they continue playing well and winning more games.
Detroit Lions: Jared Goff: D+ (Last week C+)
It was a rough Thanksgiving for Jared Goff and the Lions as they were defeated at home by the visiting Green Bay Packers 29-22. Goff completed 29 passes for 332 yards, threw two touchdowns against zero interceptions, was sacked three times, and lost three fumbles in the game. Goff may not have thrown an interception but he still needs to protect the football a lot better than he did in this bad taste of a game. The Lions would surely like to forget this one along with any Thanksgiving leftovers stuck in the back corner of the fridge .
Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love: A- (Last week C)
Jordan Love played a phenomenal game in the Motor City as he and the Green Bay Packers cooked a 29-22 victory. Love completed 22 passes for 268 yards, threw three touchdowns against zero interceptions, and was not sacked all game. If Jordan Love continues playing as he played in week 12, he and the Packers can cause some serious damage to opponents hoping to reach the playoffs. He will surely be called Aaron Rodgers’ true successor to the Pack.
Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud: C+ (Last week C-)
C.J. Stroud’s performance was a step up from his three-interception game in week 11 but the Texans ultimately lost their week 12 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-21 thanks to Matt Ammendola’s two missed field goals. Stroud completed 26 passes for 304 yards, threw two touchdowns against zero interceptions, and rushed for 47 yards on six carries but was sacked four times. The offensive line needs to protect Stroud to avoid getting sacked despite a great passing and rushing performance from the possible Rookie of the Year.
Indianapolis Colts: Gardner Minshew: C (Last week Bye Week)
Gardner Minshew did not play his best football in the Colts’ 27-20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he did help them get the win, which is all that matters. Minshew completed 24 passes for 251 yards, threw an interception against zero touchdowns, rushed for six yards on three carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked twice. Minshew needs to make smarter decisions with the football. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is helping the Colts get a victory, as they continue their push for the playoffs.
Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence: B- (Last week B+)
Trevor Lawrence put on another great performance against the Jaguars’ AFC South rivals, the Houston Texans. Lawrence completed 23 passes for 364 yards, threw a touchdown against an interception, rushed for zero yards on two carries yet scored a rushing touchdown, and didn’t get sacked all game. Lawrence is continuing to show how great he can be in NFL games as he continues making the Jaguars into a true winner of a team.
Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes: A- (Last week B-)
Patrick Mahomes played another great game this season as the Chiefs cruised past the Las Vegas Raiders 31-17. Mahomes completed 27 passes for 298 yards, threw two touchdowns against zero interceptions, and rushed for nine yards on five carries but was sacked once. Mahomes is still the NFL’s best quarterback, there is no doubt, as he continues his quest to make it back to the Super Bowl and potentially win his third championship with the Chiefs.
Las Vegas Raiders: Aidan O’Connell: C+ (Last week D-)
Aidan O’Connell played well against the Kansas City Chiefs but ultimately lost to their AFC West rivals 17-31. O’Connell completed 23 passes for 248 yards and threw one touchdown against zero interceptions but was sacked once. O’Connell played much better than he did in the team’s week 11 loss in Miami. This game was a sign of improvement for the rookie out of Purdue, looking to help this struggling Raiders team in any way possible and potentially become the starter for the Raiders next season, if he keeps playing well.
Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert: C- (Last week C+)
Justin Herbert is a good quarterback who is sadly stuck on a struggling Los Angeles Chargers team that lost 10-20 to the Baltimore Ravens. Herbert completed 29 passes for 217 yards, threw a touchdown against an interception, and rushed for 47 yards on four carries but was sacked three times and lost a fumble. Herbert needs to make some better decisions with the football as well as make sure his Chargers teammates bounce back and get themselves out of their current losing streak for the remainder of the season.
Los Angeles Rams: Matthew Stafford: B- (Last week C)
Matthew Stafford played a very good game despite his struggles this season. Stafford completed 25 passes for 229 yards, threw four touchdowns against one interception, and was not sacked once. Stafford may be considered to be past his prime years, but, at the end of the day, he can still help the Rams secure a much-needed victory when it truly matters.
Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa: C+ (Last week B)
Tua Tagovailoa did not play his best game in the Meadowlands against the New York Jets but he did help the Dolphins secure the win over Gang Green. Tagovailoa completed 21 passes for 243 yards, threw one touchdown to Tyreek Hill against two interceptions, and rushed for one yard on two carries but was sacked twice. Tagovailoa has played better in other games this season and will bounce back from this average performance in the coming weeks. He is fortunate the Dolphins offense is loaded with talented playmakers at every position.
Minnesota Vikings: Joshua Dobbs: D- (Last week C+)
It was a very rough night for Joshua Dobbs with the Vikings’ loss to the Chicago Bears 10-12. Dobbs completed 22 passes for 185 yards, threw one touchdown against four interceptions, and rushed for 11 yards on two carries but was sacked twice. Dobbs did not play well in a low-scoring rivalry game, with the Bears, but will certainly rebound and turn the Vikings’ two-game losing streak around.
New England Patriots: Mac Jones: F (Last week Bye Week)
It was an abysmal performance for Mac Jones as he and the Patriots lost to the New York Giants 7-10. Jones completed 12 passes for 89 yards and threw two interceptions and no touchdowns before getting benched for Bailey Zappe who completed nine passes for 54 yards and threw an interception against no touchdowns. Both Jones and Zappe were also sacked once each. The Patriots are playing terrible football and both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe have played very poorly, all season long. This season may be the last time we see Jones and/ or Zappe in Patriots’ uniforms as the team needs to restart from scratch if they want to be relevant again.
New Orleans Saints: Derek Carr: D+ (Last week Bye Week)
Derek Carr came back after the Saints’ bye week but did not have a good game. Admittedly, he could’ve played much worse. Carr completed 24 passes for 304 yards, threw one interception against zero touchdowns, and rushed for seven yards on six carries but was sacked once. Carr’s play, so far this season, has been very inconsistent at best even though he has helped the Saints earn some well-needed victories in a very weak division. Ultimately Carr’s production needs to improve if the Saints want to make the playoffs.
New York Giants: Tommy DeVito: D+ (Last week C)
Tommy DeVito may not be good quarterback statistically, but he is a good game manager who helped the Giants get the win over the woeful New England Patriots. DeVito completed 17 passes for 191 yards and threw one touchdown against zero interceptions but was sacked six times and lost a fumble but recovered a fumble. DeVito is not playing great football, by any stretch of the imagination, but, he did get the Giants the win with average play and a struggling Giants team.
New York Jets: Tim Boyle: F (Last week F)
Tim Boyle tried whatever he could to help the struggling New York Jets on Black Friday against the Miami Dolphins but his performance was horrible. Boyle completed 27 passes for 179 yards, threw one touchdown to Garrett Wilson near the end of the game against two interceptions (one of them being returned for a 99-yard pick-six by Jevon Hollard to close the first half), and rushed for two yards on two carries but was sacked seven times. Boyle is proving himself to be a lack luster quarterback and should try to revive his career in the XFL or CFL. The Jets would be well served to try to find another viable option at QB as Aaron Rodgers continues his Achilles injury recovery.
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts: A- (Last week C+)
Jalen Hurts played one of his best games of the season, so far, with a very close 37-34 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills. Hurts completed 18 passes for 200 yards, threw three touchdowns against one interception, rushed for 65 yards on 14 carries, and scored two rushing touchdowns. It was an outstanding performance by Hurts as he has the potential to win the NFL MVP award for his grit and dedication to the game. If the offense continues to play elite ball, Hurts may even lead the Eagles back to where they have unfinished business to take care of, including finishing the postseason as the potential Super Bowl champions!
Pittsburgh Steelers: Kenny Pickett: C- (Last week D+)
Kenny Pickett isn’t the best quarterback for the Steelers as of late, but is a decent enough game manager who can help the team secure victories as they did in their 16-10 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals. Pickett completed 24 passes for 278 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for five yards on five carries but was sacked twice. Pickett’s performance may have been less than stellar, but he still managed to lead the Steelers to victory over their AFC North rivals.
San Francisco 49ers: Brock Purdy: B- (Last week A-)
Brock Purdy entered their Thanksgiving Day game very confidently as he and the 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 31-13. Purdy completed 21 passes for 209 yards, threw one touchdown against one interception, and rushed for one yard on three carries but was sacked once in the game. Purdy still has a somewhat steep learning curve to deal with, but with the 49ers’ excellent chemistry on all sides of the ball, Purdy will be just fine. He has the opportunity to lead them to potentially another NFC West title as he and the 9ers surely devoured some hot and steamy turkey to celebrate their week 12 victory.
Seattle Seahawks: Geno Smith: D- (Last week C)
Geno Smith did not have a great game as he and the Seahawks dropped the cranberry sauce in their 13-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Smith completed 18 passes for 180 yards, threw one interception against zero touchdowns, and rushed for 21 yards on four carries but was sacked six times. Smith needs to bounce back in a hurry, in the coming weeks, if he wants to help the Seahawks return to the playoffs. Admittedly, the Seahawks’ week 13 matchup is not going to be easy as they take on the Dallas Cowboys who defeated the Washington Commanders 45-10.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Baker Mayfield: C- (Last week C-)
Baker Mayfield isn’t the best quarterback in the league, nonetheless he can play fair to average despite the Bucs losing 20-27 to the Indianapolis Colts. Mayfield completed 20 passes for 199 yards, threw two touchdowns to Mike Evans against one interception, and rushed for 14 yards on three carries but was sacked six times. Mayfield needed to avoid defensive pressure and the offensive line needed to protect him better, in this loss. Mayfield and company are lucky that the NFC South is football’s weakest division in 2023. They can potentially still win, if the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons somehow play even worse in the remaining weeks.
Tennessee Titans: Will Levis: D+ (Last week D+)
It was a very tough day for Will Levis even though he helped the Titans snap a three-game losing streak to the Carolina Panthers. Levis completed 18 passes for 185 yards, threw no touchdowns or interceptions, and rushed for negative three yards on three carries but was sacked once. Levis needs to drastically improve and get more passes to DeAndre Hopkins, who is one of the game’s best wide receivers, if the Titans want to get more wins for the remainder of the season. However, the offensive line for the Titans has been playing poorly which can explain why Levis has been struggling thus far. When the season ends, the Titans need to fix their offensive line to give Levis more protection in 2024.
Washington Commanders: Sam Howell: F (Last week D)
It was a very rough Thanksgiving for Sam Howell as he and the Commanders fell to the Dallas Cowboys 10-45. Howell completed 28 passes for 300 yards, threw an interception which became a 63-yard pick-six for DaRon Bland, rushed for two yards on 13 carries, and scored a rushing touchdown but was sacked four times in the game. Howell, at this point of the season, could finish out the remaining games, but could potentially get benched for someone else- after his horrific performance in Jerry’s World.
